FAMILY and friends thronged SJK(C) Hun Bin in Tanjong Tokong this evening, to celebrate the Tanglung festival, organised by the school alumni.

 

Besides that, DIY booths were also set up at the school to educate the public on crafting traditional items such as tanglung lanterns, and mooncakes, among others.

The Tanglung festival at the school was officiated by the Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid.

“Congratulations to the school for organising this wonderful event. An event like this can bring our community closer.

 

“Events like this also can serve as a platform to reconnect with our teachers and friends. It can also embrace the tradition and also celebrate the strength and unity among our community,” she said.

 

The Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Mooncake or Lantern Festival (Tanglung Festival), is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.

 

It is usually marked by family reunions, a full moon viewing and the consumption of mooncakes. It is also regarded as an auspicious day for wedding ceremonies.

 

In essence, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional celebration that places great importance on culture, family bonds and the opportunity to celebrate as a community.
