THE Bukit Panchor Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Knowledge Corner (Sudut Ilmu) was officially launched on Jan 22 at Taman Bukit Panchor.
State exco member for Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation, Chow Kon Yeow, was the guest of honour for the official launching ceremony.
Also present at the event were Jawi assemblymember Soon Lip Chee, Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) president Datuk Maimunah Mohd. Sharif and MPSP councillors Jason H’ng Mooi Lye and Heng Yeh Shiaun.
“Since when I was still a councillor in 2009, I had started this effort of collecting used or old books to reuse and today I have over 5,000 books with me from all over Malaysia. This Knowledge Corner in Bukit Panchor is the second of its’ kind in Jawi. The first JKKK Knowledge Corner was in Taman Bestari,” said Soon.
“There are a lot of unutilised multipurpose halls in Seberang Perai and I hope that people will soon start utilising these halls as much as they can. I hope that the JKKKs in Seberang Perai would take the initiative to apply for a vacant hall from MPSP for their own use in their area,” said Chow.
In her speech, Maimunah said that currently there are 54 unutilised halls in Seberang Perai and urged the JKKK to come forward and apply as it is the state government’s policy to give priority to JKKK.
In the northern region of Seberang Perai, there are 13 unutilised halls out of the 58 halls built in the area whereas in Central Seberang Perai, there are 25 unutilised halls out of the 102 halls there and finally there are 16 unutilised halls out of the 64 halls in the southern region of Seberang Perai.
“It is very simple to apply for the halls, you just need to prepare a copy of your organisation’s registration certificate, a list of the members in the organisation and the yearly activity plans,” added Maimunah.
This newly launched Bukit Panchor’s JKKK Knowledge Corner cum Multipurpose Hall will be open to the public every weekday from 3pm to 6pm.
Other than books, there are various games for people of all ages to enjoy and also benches for older folks to sit and catch up with each other.
