PENANG is a travel destination with strong cultural, historical and heritage elements, said state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin when he attended a book launch ceremony.
The book, titled ‘Nature Trails of Seberang Perai,’ was written by Penangite Rexy Prakash Chacko, who is a young engineer by profession and a nature lover by passion.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Yeoh said that Rexy has mapped and compiled a comprehensive list of nature trails in Seberang Perai.
“The book is vividly illustrated with maps and photographs, bringing the wonders of Seberang Perai’s natural assets to the fore.
“The purpose of the book is a way to increase our connection with nature and provide opportunities to explore a range of trails ,” Yeoh said during the ceremony at Penang Youth Centre, Lebuh Acheh, George Town on May 4.
Rexy said that he wanted more people to explore the natural wonders of Penang state, especially in Seberang Perai.
“I also believe that today as we face the challenges of climate change and natural habitat destruction, it is more important than ever for people to come into contact with the natural world. Only then will people realise how beautiful nature is and seek to protect her,” he added.
The 120-page book offers a range of hiking opportunities to Penangites and visitors of all ages.
For those who are interested, the book is available at arecabooks.com, all major bookshops and also at Areca book store located at 72, Lebuh Acheh, Penang for RM20.
