THE Malaysian Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI ), Penang contributed RM51,000 to the flood relief fund set up by the state government following the recent Nov 4 floods.
“As a responsible association, we would like to do our part in helping the flood victims in Penang through our small contribution.
“I would like to convey this message to all those people who are affected by the flood that we are together with them in these trying times.
“We know that the state government is doing the needful for Penangites (flood victims),” said Penang MICCI president Datuk N. Gobalakrishnan during the cheque presentation at the chambers on Nov 16.
State exco member Chow Kon Yeow, who was also present, hoped that the state and its people will bounce back fast.
“It is a great loss for Penangites and Penang itself and now we must rise up together.
“I would like to thank the PIC for its generosity in contributing to the flood relief fund.
“An announcement will be made regarding the registration for the financial aid (one-off payment of RM700),” Chow said.
Chow stated that some 100,000 people will be receiving the financial aid and those whose vehicles have been damaged by the rain storm can also apply for the financial assistance.
Meanwhile, the Registered Trustees Nattukottai Chettiar Temples, Penang on Nov 8 made a donation of RM25,000 to the state government.
The fund was handed over by the temple’s trustee A.L Lakhhmanan to State Financial Officer Datuk Sarul Bahiyah Abu at the State Assembly building in George Town.
Also present was exco for Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Chow Kon Yeow.
Lakhhmanan said the temple committee wished to get involved in helping the victims of the recent thunderstorm and flash floods in Penang.
“This is the first step to showour support for the flood victims to bounce back to live their normal lives,” he added.
