Boost for Penang orchestra

PENANG Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) today received a boost after obtaining green light for additional funding.

This comes after Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow agreed to provide an additional RM150,000 from his own allocation on top of the yearly RM250,000 aid for PPO.

He shared the good news with the PPO’s team during their 30-minute courtesy call on him at his office in Komtar.

“The state is committed to boosting the musical industry here in Penang.

Chow having a discussion with the PPO team with presence of state Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin (in blue).

“Therefore, the state will also assist PPO by engaging a potential sponsor to do its part if any opportunity arises.

“We will do our best to promote the orchestra here in Penang,” he said.

PPO chairman Datin Seri Irene Yeap was delighted with Chow’s kind gesture.

She said the contribution meant a lot to them as it would be used for the purchase of equipment.
