LEADING medical technology manufacturer, Boston Scientific Medical Device Sdn Bhd has expressed hopes of collaborating with Penang in the area of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG).
Its vice-president (Penang operations) Fearghal Hennessy said the company is looking at emulating initiatives conducted in countries such as India, particularly involving the environment and society.
“We are trying to align our ESG strategy here in Penang with a combined vision of allowing our employees to lend a helping hand to the community, as well as to benefit the community at large through our initiatives.
“We are also looking at addressing social issues in the community, and that is why we are hopeful of looking at a possible collaboration with the Penang government to assist us in this vision of ours,” Hennessy said during his courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in Komtar today.
Chow said healthcare could be an area that can be further explored but it certainly comes with a lot of procedures as it involves the interest of the Federal Government.
“As for the state-level policies, we can discuss and probably get schools that are interested to be involved in relevant programmes.
“Meanwhile, another area that we could look at is organising programmes to promote healthy aging in the state.
“We are currently working with a KL-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) on this area,” Chow said.
On another matter, Chow also said that state executive councillor Chong Eng, who helms the Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs portfolio, is currently working on setting up a daycare in Batu Kawan to cater to the needs of the working women there.
