CONCERNED about the plight of the needy who have been greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, Bukit Minyak Mukim 13 Village Community Management Council (MPKK) has set up a vegetable farm in the backyard of its premises.
Bukit Minyak Mukim 13 MPKK chairman Chew Chin Ewo said the 2,000sq ft farm was established in June this year by the committee members and locals with a cost of RM2,000.
“The farm is filled with various types of vegetables such as bok choi (pak choi), chili, kailan, spinach, water spinach and pucuk ubi.
“So, when the fresh vegetables are ready, we will distribute them to the needy folks in Bukit Minyak, such as single mothers, disabled people (OKU), B40 families, orphanages and many more.
“And each month we could get between 50kg and 100kg of fresh produce to be given to them. They also can come directly to the premises to get the vegetables.
“Hopefully, the fresh vegetables given could at least ease their burden during these trying times,” Chew told Buletin Mutiara in an interview at the Bukit Minyak MPKK today.
According to Chew, some of the fresh vegetables would also be sold at the premises and the profits would be used to buy seeds and equipment for the farm.
“It will also be used to fund the MPKK upcoming programmes here,” he added.
Asked whether such initiative would continue when the Covid-19 pandemic is over, Chew said they would carry on with the project.
“We are committed to serving and helping the underprivileged in this area no matter the circumstances. Our efforts to assist them will still continue,” Chew said.
