AFTER two years of celebrating Ramadan on a low scale, the Seri Delima neighbourhood is more vibrant and colourful, especially at the Ramadan bazaar.
Its assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid said this year, a total of 48 Ramadan stalls have been set up in the neighbourhood.
“As we are in transition to the endemic phase, the Ramadan month is now livelier with its bazaar back again.
“Visitors are thronging the place and I am excited to see businesses being revived,” Syerleena said during her walkabout at the bazaar yesterday.
Syerleena said to add to the merriment, she and her team have initiated several programmes in the neighbourhood.
“Prior to this, we had distributed dates to the residents here, suraus and the mosques as well as the visitors and traders at Ramadan bazaar.
“We also had organised buka puasa event at the Masjid Jamek Sungai Gelugor on April 10.
“Along with that, there are a few other upcoming buka puasa events which will be held at Masjid At-Taqwa Taman Tun Sardon on April 13 (today), surau at Krystal Heights, Island Glades (April 17) and Sungai Gelugor MPKK hall on April 16.
“On April 16 and April 18, I will be distributing bubur lambuk to the Jelutong police station as a gesture of appreciation for their service.
“They have always been helpful to the Seri Delima neighbourhood.
“We will be also distributing bubuk lambuk to the traders and the residents as well,” she added.
Syerleena added that a total of 30 food baskets were distributed to the needy under the ‘Bantuan Kasih Ramadhan’ programme.
“For the residents with health issues, we had also handed over wheelchairs, diapers and medicine. And the distribution is still on-going.
“Overall, we have spent a total of RM17,000 for the Ramadan month activities, including the charity programmes.
“This year we plan to hold a Hari Raya open house on May 14 and hopefully it will take place smoothly,” Syerleena said.
During the walkabout, Syerleena and her team distributed dates to the traders and visitors at the Ramadan bazaar.
She was accompanied by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Quah Boon Lim, Northeast district penghulu Nasrizal Nasib and Taman Sardon Village Community Management Council (MPKK) secretary Mohd Zaidi Omar.
