IT is important for school children to be moulded into useful citizens, says newly-appointed Penang Education Department director Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad.
To achieve this, Abdul Rashid said parents, together with teachers and representatives of the Education Department, have a joint role to play at a meet-up session with the board of governors from some secondary schools at Hotel Equatorial in Bukit Jambul on Feb 28.
Also present were four deputy directors from the Penang Education Department – Ismail Mohd Said (Planning & Management), Azizah Paijo (Learning), Suhaimi Saidin (Management) and Zahari Zakariah (Student Building).
Joining them were 10 representatives from the schools, namely SMJK Chung Ling, SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian, SMJK Heng Ee, SMJK Union, SMJK Convent Datuk Keramat, SMJK Phor Tay, SMJK Sacred Heart, SMJK Perempuan China Pulau Pinang, SMJK Jit Sin Bukit Mertajam and SMJK Jit Sin SPS.
Meanwhile, SMJK Chung Ling chairman Datuk Seri Koay Hean Eng said the meet-up was to congratulate Abdul Rashid on his promotion as well as to establish a better rapport with other officers from the Penang Education Department.
In expressing his gratitude to Abdul Rashid and his team for a good job done over the past few years, he wished them further success.
“I hope all of us will take advantage of every opportunity given to learn from one another and hopefully through the interaction and interesting conversation, it will foster closer relationship,” Koay stressed.
