Calling volunteers to join hands to clean up Penang Hill

THE Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) is calling upon volunteers to participate in its annual event, ‘Trash Free Hill 2023’, which is set to take place at Penang Hill on Sept 24.

PHC general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng said it is a shared responsibility to keep Penang Hill clean and encouraged the public to participate in the programme as a family as well as with friends.

“The ‘Trash Free Hill 2023’ is a symbolic event to create awareness of preserving the hill and we want to emphasise that we should not leave any trash behind.

“The hill is the responsibility of everyone, so come and join us and bring back home good memories,” Cheok said during a press conference today at Penang Hill.

Cheok also welcomed in-kind contributions from any interested corporate companies as a gesture of supporting the event.

Meanwhile, Air Putih former assemblyman Lim Guan Eng said that by joining the activity, the volunteers will act as ambassadors for environmental conservation and safeguarding the hill’s beauty.

“The activity will cover a total of seven trails, with starting points at Moongate entrance A&B, Botanical Gardens, Jeep Track, Lower Station/Heritage trail, Hye Keat Estate, Jalan Air Itam and will end at the Dataran Penang Hill.

“I believe Penang is among the few cities that have both the Unesco World Heritage Site and Unesco Biosphere Reserve.

“Indeed, it is rare to find a city and a 130-million-year-old tropical rainforest located just 20 minutes away from each other.

“I would like to thank PHC, all sponsors, and partners who have generously contributed their time, resources, and support to make this event possible,” Lim said.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and wear their past TFH t-shirts if they have any to support the state government’s green initiative.

As a token of appreciation, participants will receive TFH2023 Kit and e-certificate.
Those who are interested can sign up at PHC’s website www.penanghill.gov.my or via PHC’s social media platforms.
