Calvin Kwan re-elected as Samenta northern region chairman

NUKO Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Calvin Kwan has been re-elected as chairman of the Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia (Samenta) northern region for three years, from 2023 until 2026.

He was the Samenta northern region chairman in the previous 2020-2023 term.

Kwan was elected as the Samenta northern region chairman for the 2023-2026 term during the association’s recent annual general meeting in June this year.

Kwan said he is committed to ensuring that the association stays relevant to all the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) players in the northern region by continuing to strengthen its relationship with the respective state governments.

“We also want to ensure that all the SMEs in the northern region become the enablers for the digital transformation journey.

“As the ongoing trends in advanced technology continue to present us with significant opportunities, it becomes increasingly imperative that our SMEs are well-prepared to harness the potential of digitalisation, automation, and innovation,” Kwan said in his speech during the luncheon session organised by Samenta to introduce its newly elected northern region committee members who will serve from 2023 until 2026.

The luncheon session was held at Jen Hotel in George Town today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was also present, congratulated Kwan and the Samenta northern region new committee members.

Chow congratulated Kwan and the Samenta northern region new committee members.

“Today’s event marks a significant moment in the journey of SMEs in Malaysia, particularly in the northern region, and I believe it is a testament to the dedication and hard work of all those involved in supporting the growth of SMEs in Malaysia.

“Samenta has played a significant role in supporting SMEs in Malaysia, particularly in the northern region, contributing towards their growth and success.

“By acting as a liaison between business owners and their respective stakeholders, Samenta plays a pivotal role in aiding and advocating for its members. This enables them to articulate their concerns and address the challenges they face, contributing significantly to the enhancement of the overall business environment for SMEs.

“We look forward to the continued collaboration that will drive the growth and prosperity of our SMEs in Penang and the country as a whole.

“Together, we will continue to build a thriving ecosystem that empowers SMEs, creates jobs, and fuels economic growth,” said Chow.

Also present during the event today were Penang Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, Samenta national president Datuk William Ng, Samenta organising chairman, national vice-president cum northern region deputy chairman Dr Celvin Tan, Samenta executive advisor Datuk Koay Chiew Guan and Samenta honorary advisor Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Hussain.
