THE Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) election machinery must work harder to ensure the 30 to 32-seat target can be achieved in the state polls scheduled on Aug 12.
Its chairman Chow Kon Yeow acknowledges that they are not far from their target in their campaign thus far.
“However, we must not be complacent. We must intensify our efforts in reaching out to voters.
“In the remaining week, we hope the PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) election machinery can campaign harder, maintain discipline and convey a strong unity message.
“It is important for us to attain 30-32 seats to ensure a stable and robust government to face the opposition if given a mandate to form the next state government,” he said during a ceramah in Sungai Puyu on Saturday night.
During the ceramah, Chow urged the voters to support Unity candidate Phee Syn Tze, who has been assisting her father, former Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Boon Poh.
“In fact, Phee has been actively involved in politics ever since 1982. He is a key figure in the party,” he said.
Chow hoped the voters will give their support to the three Unity candidates – Syn Tze (Sungai Puyu), Kumaran Krishnan (Bagan Dalam) and Chee Yeeh Keen (Bagan Jermal) who are contesting in the state constituencies under the Bagan parliamentary.
Chow also hoped to bring sustainable development to Penang if given a chance to serve again.
Among those present during ceramah were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who is also BN secretary-general, DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng, who is also Air Putih candidate, Phee, Syn Tze, Chee, and former Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee.
