THE Penang government remains committed to transforming open public spaces into neighbourhood or recreational parks that would benefit the community in the state.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state aims to optimise open public spaces to ensure various recreational activities could be held.
“We will have a guideline on such initiative. We hope the local community can make full use of the park facilities to conduct sporting activities.
“It is a laudable effort in line with our Penang2030 vision,” he said during the opening of a recreational park at Pusat Jagaan Rumah Sejahtera in Permatang Tinggi, Bukit Mertajam today.
The recreational park, which was completed last month, took about eight months to finish.
Chow said senior citizens could now carry out their daily exercise routines conveniently.
“Many stakeholders and parties made this park a success,” he said.
Chow also thanked Majlis Pusat Kebajikan SeMalaysia (MPKSM) Penang Chapter for its commitment and effort.
“We are moving towards becoming an ageing society. Penang needs to work towards becoming an age-friendly city and state,” he added.
Datuk Tan Yong Seng, who is the Pusat Jagaan Rumah Sejahtera chief executive officer extended his heartfelt appreciation to the state.
“This park will be fully utilised, and I believe this is in line with the state’s Penang2030 vision.
Among those present were state Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon, and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillor Ong Jing Cheng.
