CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today called on the youngsters to be well aware of the importance of a green environment.
He said the younger generation should be conscious of the environment to play a pivotal role in the green agenda.
“They are after all the future leaders and I hope they can play an important role in promoting greenery in the state.
“In fact, the Penang Green Council (PGC) has held a series of environmental campaigns in schools.
“Various activities involving the public have been held throughout the year.
“Hence, we hope the Penang Green Agenda (PGA), initiated by PGC, will become a blueprint to lead the way for Penang to become a green state,” he told a press conference at St Jo’s in Gurney Paragon Mall today.
Chow was speaking after announcing the upcoming of ninth edition of Penang International Green Conference and Exhibition (PGIGCE) 2019 to be held at Gurney Paragon Mall from Sept 27 to 29.
He said the Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin would be present for the opening ceremony on Sept 28.
“It is a platform for enlightenment and discussion with ‘Penang Green and Smart City’ as its theme this year,” he said, adding that there are a total of 69 exhibiting booths during the event.
In addition, a MGBC Eco Power Run IV – I Green Penang Run 2019 will be held at Gurney Paragon Mall on Sept 29.
