THE Penang northeast district office has come together with the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Yayasan Islam Pulau Pinang to organise the ‘Karnival Santai Rakyat Khaira Ummah Daerah Timur Laut 2022’ today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who officiated the event, said it was held to help small traders whose businesses were affected during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This programme involves a total of 16 food truck operators in Penang.

“Apart from that, booths from both government agencies as well as private sectors have also been set up here to provide services to the public.

“I would like to congratulate the organisers namely, Penang northeast district office, MBPP and Yayasan Islam Pulau Pinang for having successfully organised the carnival,” said Chow during his speech at the event.

Touching on the development of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) industry in the state, Chow said the state government has allocated special financial assistance totalling RM1 million to 1,000 SMEs.

He said it is meant for helping them with the digitalisation of their businesses.

“So, we call upon the small traders to utilise the RM1,000 grant to bounce back in their respective businesses.

“I would like to thank the sponsors for fulfilling their corporate social responsibility through this carnival.

“Among them were, Digi Telecommunication Sdn Bhd for joining hands with the office of Tanjong Bunga assemblyman (Zairil Khir Johari) to sponsor internet (Wi-Fi) for the event.
