Cartoonist paints his way into the Malaysia Book of Records

MANY people can paint using watercolours or crayons, but not many can paint using coffee.

Renowned cartoonist Mohd Azmi Mohd Hussin, 35, is not only skilled in drawing caricatures or producing cartoon scripts; he had set a Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for the most caricatures drawn in 24 hours last year.

Today (Aug 25), Mohd Azmi’s effort has been recognised by the MBR once again for producing the ‘Longest Coffee Painting’ in Malaysia.

He spent 25 days to produce his magnificent artwork which is 101m-long!

“I’m happy that my effort bears fruit. It is all worth it,” said the Penang-born cartoonist.

Mohd Azmi is also the cartoonist who has produced three comic books titled Tanjong Life, Lost in Bagan and Little Mamak.

MBR chief operating officer Christopher Wong presented the record to Mohd Azmi, during a ceremony at Starbucks Coffee in Karpal Singh Drive today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow commended Mohd Azmi for his determination to strive for excellence.

“His creativity is admirable. His artwork serves as a strong evidence that we have a rich talent pool in Penang.

“We would like to thank Starbucks for its support towards our local talents,” Chow said.

Also present were Chow’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng and Starbucks Malaysia and Brunei managing director Sydney Quays.

Quays, during an earlier meeting with Chow, expressed his gratitude to the state government for participating in the joyous occasion.
