JOIN us in celebrating togetherness and engaging in a variety of exciting activities at the Penang2030 Festival on Sept 21 and 22 at Komtar.
This inaugural mega-event aligns with the Penang2030 vision tagline, ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.
The festival provides a unique opportunity for the public to embrace the Penang2030 vision through showcases, competitions, tours, and nostalgic activities.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced a drawing competition for primary and secondary school students aged seven to 18, beginning today (Aug 1) and ending on Aug 30 at 3pm. The theme is ‘Penang2030’, and participants are free to use any drawing and colouring methods on A3-size paper. Multiple entries are allowed, but only one entry per participant is eligible to win prizes.
Submissions can be made at the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) office on Level 1 or Komtar, Level 1 during office hours.
Chow encouraged students to depict their visions of Penang in the year 2030.
“The winning entries will be showcased during the festival,” he said during a media conference at Komtar. Also present at the press conference were Chow’s senior confidential secretary Mohd Balkish Othman, Chow’s political secretary Lau Keng Ee, MBPP mayor Datuk Rajendran Anthony, MBSP sustainable development director Normaira Abdul Rahman, Tech Dome chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi, Penang Green Council general manager Josephine Tan, and PDC Setia Urus chief operating officer Loi Kai Horng.
Tesla will showcase its electric vehicle technology at the festival, and tours of the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) CCTV command centre will be available, demonstrating Penang’s integration of digital technologies for a smarter and greener state. Visitors can also enjoy free entry to Tech Dome Penang for hands-on experiences with cutting-edge technology and exhibits.
Other exciting events include the Penang Green Market by the Penang Green Council, a planetarium adventure, mini zoo and petting activities, traditional games and cultural experiences, an industry showcase, a mini PC Fair by ICT Digital Mall, STEM and environmental workshops, government interaction, and science shows.
Renowned Malaysian professional soccer player Mohd Faiz Subri will make an appearance, and there will be an exclusive meet-and-greet session with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow expects the festival to attract around 5,000 visitors. The event is a collaborative effort by the Penang2030 Unit, MBPP, MBSP, Tech Dome Penang, and the Penang Green Council, with support from state-linked agencies and departments.
Chow expressed gratitude for the participation of ICT Digital Mall, The TOP Penang, Popular, Pusat Sains Negara, and Planetarium Negara.
In conclusion, Chow announced that the state has achieved 70% of the Penang2030 vision target so far, with 304 projects being carried out, including housing initiatives, digital transformation, climate change resilience, economic development, technology advancement, family support, youth empowerment, and gender equality.
