IT was a joyous occasion for the St George’s Church as it celebrated its bicentenary this evening.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the St George’s Church, which is the oldest Anglican church in South East Asia, has contributed much to society.

He pointed out that the church has contributed towards education, social concern and development of nation.

“We celebrate the unity, hope, peace and commitment that helped to sustain the church and enabled it to contribute towards state and nation.

Chow is greeted by those present when arriving at the dinner in City Bayview Hotel.

“In promoting the message of reconciliation, I’m sure other churches within the diocese have partnered with institutions to strengthen the communities.

“Hence, we hope to continue working hand-in-hand in shaping our nation,” he said in his speech during St George’s Church bicentenary dinner at City Bayview Hotel today.

Chow also commended the church for its services to the state and nation for the past 200 years.

Those present during the dinner are entertained with singing performances.

“I look forward to hearing more of the milestones,” he added.

Also present were Chow’s wife Tan Lean Kee, Anglican Church Diocese of West Malaysia Suffragan Bishop Datuk Charles K. Samuel, Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church in South East Asia Datuk Ng Moon Hing and Synod organising committee chairman Jaya Paul.
