THE Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) aims to promote Penang Hill as a world-class tourism site while also encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
In collaboration with Hikers Roundtable, an alliance of hikers, hash runners, trail runners, mountain bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts, PHC encouraged families with young children to hike up the hill. Along the way, participants appreciated nature and picked up trash.
On its Facebook page, PHC shared that on Father’s Day, two families hiked from the Penang Botanic Gardens to Station P84 with their five to seven-year-olds. They encountered white-bellied woodpeckers, monkey cups, dusky leaf monkeys, and 200-year-old Meranti and Ipoh poison trees.
With a cool breeze at their backs, these nature lovers collected three bags of trail trash, setting a great example for their children on Father’s Day.
Hikers Roundtable founder Tony Leng said everyone had a great time while contributing to nature and sustainability.
He added that PHC and Hikers Roundtable hope more families will join such activities, appreciating nature and ensuring the pristine environment at Penang Hill to make Penang even better.
