IN conjunction with World Labour Day celebration, Perai state constituency organised ‘May Day Walk’ on May 1.
Some 500 people participated in the five kilometre walk which began at Taman Kimsar, Perai.
Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, who officiated the ‘May Day Walk’, described the event as more towards a community gathering of people from all walks of life with the aim to remember the significance of ‘Labour Day’.
“I wish to congratulate all the participants who took the courage to join the walk.
“The walk, which is organised by the Perai state constituency, is also to create awareness about healthy living lifestyle within the community,” said Ramasamy, who is also the Perai assemblyman.
According to Ramasamy, they decided to hold the event in conjunction with Labour Day to recognise workers’ contributions to the economy which supports the local communities directly and indirectly.
Joining in the walk were Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) councillors David Marshal and Jason Raj and other invited guests.
There were also attractive lucky draw prizes.
