JUST like joining work on the first day, leaving for the very last time is equally special and should be remembered as it is part of one’s journey in life.
A total of 178 retirees, who had served the state government here, were recognised for their dedication and commitment during the ‘Majlis Jasamu Dikenang’ at Eastin Hotel Penang in Bayan Lepas today.
They included 22 civil servants who had passed away but were represented by their next-of-kin.
The retirees included those from 2020 to 2022, as big gathering was not allowed in the past two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present during the event, handed out a certificate and RM400 as a token of appreciation to each of the retirees present.
“Each one of you has successfully played a role in carrying out your duty diligently, giving your best possible service to the people of Penang.
“All the effort, time and sacrifices made will always be remembered for helping to assist the state meet its vision and mission,” Chow said during his speech.
Also during the event, the next-of-kin of 22 deceased civil servants present received the token of appreciation from Chow.
“To all the family members of the deceased civil servants, the state conveys its heartiest appreciation to all of you on behalf of your loved ones for their service and time with us.
“Although gone, they will always be cherished for playing a role in making Penang what it is today, which is a state that cares for the people.
“As a civil servant, this is one journey that we all have to go through.
“Now, I hope the very best for all of you and may you all seize this opportunity to do what’s best for you and your family members.
“A new phase begins now.
“Happy retirement, take care an,d stay safe everyone,” Chow added.
Also present during the ceremony was deputy State Secretary Datuk Mohd Zakuan Zakaria (development).
