THE Penang Bon Odori Festival 2024 is a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture set to take place at the end of the month.
The event is scheduled for July 27, from 5pm to 11pm at Padang Kota Lama.
It will offer a great opportunity to experience Japanese cultural performances and food.
In addition to the main event, there will be a prelude called the Penang Bon Odori Pop-Up Fest, happening on July 20 and 21 at Level 3, 1st Avenue from 10am to 10pm.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai shared that the Penang Bon Odori Festival 2024 aims to foster cultural diversity and appreciation.
“This event is more than just a celebration; it is a testament to the unity and cultural diversity that define Penang.
“We invite everyone to join us in the Penang Bon Odori Festival and Pop-Up Fest to enjoy the rich traditions, vibrant performances, and joyful atmosphere,” Wong said during a press conference today.
The highlights of the Penang Bon Odori Pop-Up Fest include traditional Bon Odori Dance, Japanese singing performances, Origami and Kirigami Workshops, Miss Penang Bon Odori Preliminary Rounds, and a Japanese Runway Fashion Show.
Meanwhile, Penang Bon Odori Festival 2024 will feature cultural performances, Bon Odori Dance, Miss Penang Bon Odori Finals, Japanese Fishermen Dance and sword demonstrations by Mushinkan, a special appearance by Pikachu, a fireworks display, and a live band performance.
