DURING hot and dry weather, cendol is a traditional dessert that often comes to mind.
This famous dessert can be found in several places.
However, if you are in Sungai Bakap or nearby, don’t forget to visit Cendol Ali, popular for its authentic taste.
The roadside stall is located in front of the Masjid Lama Sungai Bakap.
It is open every day except Friday, from 11am until 4pm.
The cendol stall is run by Amir Shah Ali Mohamad, 48, and his two sons, Ahmad Syurim, 24, and Mohd Syafiq,15.
Amir said his stall continues the family business that started 50 years ago.
“My late father started this business selling cendol during the weekends as a side income for the family. I was just helping him back then. After I finished my Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, I decided to manage the cendol stall full-time.
“I only serve two types of cendol here, namely ‘cendol biasa’ and ‘cendol pulut,’ priced at RM3 and RM3.50 respectively.
“So far, the response and support from the locals over the years have been very encouraging. They love our cendol!” Amir told Buletin Mutiara recently.
Amir added that he uses the same ingredients his late father used to maintain the authentic taste.
“The secret recipe for this cendol never changes. The taste remains the same over the years.
“I also make sure that the ingredients used are fresh. We use fresh coconut milk and any leftover is discarded,” he said.
When asked if he is interested in opening another stall in another location, Amir said he has no plans to do so for now, as quality is better than quantity.
