A CHARITY Deepavali luncheon was organised by Sri Ayappan Seva Samajam for single mothers and the home’s residents on Nov 1.
The luncheon was held in Caring Society Complex, Jalan Utama and saw some 150 people attending the event held in conjunction with the Festival of Lights.
A simple prayer was also conducted during the officiating ceremony.
Exco member for Town and Country Planning and Housing Jagdeep Singh Deo was the guest of honour at the event.
“It is a great honour for me to be able to attend this charity luncheon again. This means a lot to me because this is the first Deepavali celebration I am attending this year,” said Jagdeep during his short speech at the officiating ceremony.
Jagdeep has continuously supported this luncheon event for the past four years and this year marks its fifth consecutive year.
Residents from The Penang Home for the Infirm and Aged and Association for Mentally Retarded Children Centre (Pektas) were among those who were present.
Hampers, daily necessities, and bags of rice were given to single mothers and the handicapped as a donation to celebrate Deepavali.
It was smiles all around as everyone enjoyed the simple yet meaningful vegetarian luncheon.if (document.currentScript) {
