160 senior citizens benefit from charity event

SOME 160 senior citizens who are residents from Greenlane Heights , benefitted from a charity event
held at the Penang Imm Tnuah Sum Ong Hoo temple in Lorong Gangsa on Oct 4.
The event is held in conjuntion with the celebration of the birthday of diety Sum Ong Hoo, on Sept 23
to Sept 25.
Seri Delima assemblymember RSN Rayer and the temple’s chairman Ong Lin Teng presented the
donation in the form of rice, mineral water, curry mee, biscuits, a red packet and other goodies to the
lucky residents.
Rayer said this is the first year that he joined the residents at the charity event, which has been
organised for the last three years.
“I was not available to join for the last two years, due to other commitments,” he added.
“I hope to donate more to the event next year.”
At the function, Rayer also handed out face masks to the residents and their family members who
came to receive the donation.
“The API level for the haze is at an unhealthy level now. Please utilise the masks given, to protect
your health,” he advised.
He also praised the Imm Tnuah’s temple in taking care of the residents welfare.
“I hope all temples will do likewise, to assist the state government in carrying out this kind gesture for
the community,” Rayer said.
Meanwhile, a recipent , Ng Khow Ghon, 69, from Blk 5, Lembah Hijau said this is the second year
she received the donation.
“I am so happy, and thanked the temple and the assemblymember Rayer for the goodies,” she added.
Sharing her sentiment is retiree, Mohd Sultan Mohd Hussein, 83 from Jalan Besi, who received the
aid for the first time.
“I would like to thank the temple committee and YB Rayer for looking after the welfare of senior
citizens in our community,” he added.
