“Your dedication and unwavering support ensure that we can continue our mission of uplifting the community.

“This gesture is more than a tradition; it is a symbol of our respect and appreciation for their contributions to society. Our senior citizens are the pillars of wisdom and experience, and it is our duty to honour them,” Sim added.

He quoted a Chinese proverb, reminding everyone that it is through the hard work and sacrifices of those before us that we enjoy today’s blessings.

“We hope these red packets bring not only financial support but also a sense of warmth and care as we step into the new year,” Sim said.

Chow extended his deepest appreciation to Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society Penang for organising the remarkable event that has become a cherished tradition.

He said: “The Red Packet Giveaway Ceremony beautifully reflects our shared values of compassion, generosity, and the commitment to uplifting those in need.

“Held twice a year – before Chinese New Year and during the MUS Anniversary in May – this ceremony exemplifies the enduring power of collective kindness.

“I commend MUS for their generous contribution of RM195,000, which empowers these organisations to continue their impactful work. This extraordinary support strengthens the fabric of our society, fostering empathy and mutual support.”

The state government, through its Penang2030 vision, aims to create a society where every individual feels valued, supported, and empowered. Today’s event is a testament to this vision, showcasing how collaboration and compassion can drive meaningful change.

“As Penang navigates the challenges of an ageing population and the needs of the underprivileged, we recognise the importance of a holistic approach. This includes government initiatives, community engagement, and the active participation of organisations like Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society Penang.

“The state government, through programmes like i-Sejahtera, has consistently prioritised the well-being of all citizens. As of October 2024, RM54.8 million has been allocated to benefit 284,095 recipients, reflecting our unwavering commitment to dignity and care for the elderly and less fortunate,” Chow shared.

Concluding his speech, Chow wished all attendees a year of harmony, prosperity, and success in 2025.
