THE Football Association of Penang (FAP) was praised for winning the Premier League this year which automatically gained the team promotion to Super League next year.
Joseph Ng Soon Siang (PH – Air Itam) was among those who congratulated FAP president Dr Amar Pritpal Abdullah, who is also the State Deputy Speaker, for the team’s success at the State Legislative Assembly in Dewan Sri Pinang today.
“This victory reflects the strong leadership of the state government in helping the Penang team realise their dream.
“Our players are an asset, thus we should ensure that their welfare is well-taken care of,” said Ng, adding that the state has been giving a lot of financial aid to FAP.
Former chief minister Lim Guan Eng (PH – Air Putih), in his speech, had also complimented the team for its achievement after coming close to promotion last year.
He said he hoped the state would continue to support the FAP and that the team would not be a one-season wonder.
On another matter, Ng said he has appealed to the state government to consider resuming the feeder bus services namely CAT Air Itam A and B which cover Air Itam, Bandar Baru Air Itam and Paya Terubong.
“This has hugely affected the people, including students, in Air Itam, Bandar Baru Air Itam, Paya Terubong. It has given them a hard time as they have to look for an alternative public transport.
“CAT Air Itam feeder bus services have the highest number of ridership among the 12 other CAT routes in Penang.
“Thus, it would be great if the services can be resumed to help them with their daily activities.”
Ng also brought to limelight the issues pertaining to the pedestrian walkway in Air Itam area.
“I would also like to call on Public Works Department (JKR), District Office, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) or any relevant departments to look into the pedestrian facilities in Air Itam neighbourhood.
“Perhaps they can make a site visit to see for themselves how narrow the pedestrian walkway is and why it is not suitable for the disabled (OKU).
“The pedestrian walkway should be smooth so that pedestrian’s safety can be ensured of,” added Ng.
