A TOTAL of 587 individuals in Penang have been arrested by the police for disregarding the movement control order (MCO).
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that Penangites must continue to obey the MCO to break the Covid-19 chain of infection.
“Let us do this together and obey the law. We can do it!
“I was informed by the Penang police chief that the compliance rate in Penang, as of April 8, was 97.7%. A total of 587 individuals have been arrested as of April 8,” Chow told the public via Facebook Live on his Facebook page today.
He also said that Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abullah Sani had issued a statement that police would be issuing RM1,000 compound notice to those who violate the MCO.
“Earlier this week, I have appealed to the Federal Government to increase the Covid-19 screenings in Penang. The state government hopes to see all positive cases emerge during this MCO period and to take the necessary action.
“We are thankful that there have been no reports of new Covid-19 clusters in Penang,” he said.
Chow said many were concerned when they saw an increase of six new positive Covid-19 cases in Penang reported yesterday (April 8).
“I have said this before, we cannot be complacent.
“This battle against Covid-19 is not over. Please do not think that we have done it. We must continue to work hard,” he said.
Also present were Penang Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang and Seberang Perai City Council mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.
