China’s vice-president Han Zheng explores Penang’s cultural treasures

CHINA vice-president Han Zheng seized the opportunity to explore the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Centre in Macalister Road and the Pinang Peranakan Mansion in Church Street during his two-day official visit to Penang.

With heightened security, his visit to the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Centre started around 3.30pm, with a warm welcome from key figures including Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, and Chinese Consul General in Penang Zhou Youbin.

Han and his delegation delved into the historical significance of Dr Sun Yat-Sen, recognised as the father of modern China, spending approximately 45 minutes absorbing the rich history.

Subsequently, Han proceeded to the Pinang Peranakan Mansion in Church Street, where a comprehensive tour lasting over half an hour unfolded. This mansion stands as a museum dedicated to preserving Penang’s Peranakan heritage.

Later in the evening, Han is scheduled to extend a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during a dinner reception in Batu Ferringhi.
