AN open lorry carrying Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and some of his team members led a convoy of vehicles around Taman Merak in Bukit Tambun as Pakatan Harapan increased its campaign tempo with polling day just around the corner.
Among those accompanying Chow on the lorry were Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik and Batu Kawan Harapan campaign director David Marshel.
Many of the Taman Merak residents came out of their houses to welcome the convoy.
The elderly and the young were pleasantly surprised to see Chow waving to them from the lorry.
They waved back smilingly as Chow’s team members handed them a bag each containing election paraphernalia.
Chow, who turned 64 yesterday, is contesting the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat in a five-cornered fight against Lee Ah Leong (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), Tan Lee Huat (Barisan Nasional), Wong Chia Zhen (Perikatan Nasional) and Ong Chin Wen (Warisan).
Speaking to the residents at the Taman Merak community hall later, Chow urged them to choose Pakatan Harapan come polling day on Nov 19 to bring about changes for the good of Malaysia and its people.
“To achieve this, we need a high voter turnout of 70 to 80%.
“Your support is very important. Every vote counts,” Chow told the crowd.
Goh, in his speech, urged the residents to encourage their children who are studying outstation to return home to vote.
He said the 15th General Election is very important to determine their future and the country’s future.
Later, Chow and his team members visited the Tambun Star Food Court, which is located about 1km from the Taman Merak community hall.
Chow was warmly received by the patrons there when he walked in at about 6.30pm.
He went on to greet the stall operators as well as patrons and their family members from table to table.
He also distributed bags filled with election paraphernalia to them.
After visiting the stalls, Chow was presented with a portrait sketch of himself by a senior citizen, named Lim Gip Chai, who had casually approached him when he and his team members were having their dinner.
Chow autographed one of the portraits and returned it to the 76-year-old.
Owning over a thousand portrait sketches at home, Lim said that he enjoys drawing and has many portraits of famous personalities stored at home.
After dinner, Chow left to attend another function in Sungai Bakap.
