CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today urged the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) to take stringent enforcement measures to ensure everyone adhere to the movement control order (MCO).
In a live broadcast session on his Facebook page, Chow said it was important to ensure the MCO imposed from March 18 to March 31 was taken note of.
“Some of them are still unfamiliar with or do not understand the order imposed beginning yesterday.
“In fact, I have attended a briefing session on Covid-19 in Komtar this morning in which the special task force formed is ready to serve round the clock to combating the virus.
“As the chief minister in the state, I would not allow Penangites to be threatened with the virus by not taking any stern action.
“Hence, the state will do its best to battle this outbreak,” he said.
At the time of writing, Penang has recorded 32 cases while 900 cases been detected nationally.
Chow also brushed off a viral text message titled ‘Message From A Doctor in Penang Hospital’.
“I have been informed by state Health Department that the message circulated was fake.
“In this period, the state always forges a close cooperation with the department in battling the virus,” he added.
Chow took the opportunity to thank those frontliners for doing their job during this difficulty period.
“We greatly appreciate your kind efforts in serving the people,” he said.
