EDUCATION must be prioritised as it remains a key to success, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.
He said education is of paramount importance for a person to excel in life during his speech at the opening ceremony of a closed-hall in SMK Westlands today.
“For instance, where would we be now if we did not receive our education? Education plays a crucial role as our neighbouring Asean countries are currently competing with us in terms of development and foreign investments.
“If we don’t strive to improve our education level, our counterparts in the region might be ahead of us in the future.
“Hence, education is pivotal to lift our country to greater heights,” he said.
The hall was built to cater to the school’s various programmes and Chow expressed his hopes it would be fully utilised by the school authorities.
“Any facilities that are benefitting the students would be given consideration. We are committed to students’ education,” he added.
Chow also hoped that the Education Ministry can look into school’s climate resilience.
Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, who was present, said her ministry would look into the request by the school to instal air-conditioners.
“We strive to provide a better learning environment for the students,” she said.
Lim also concurred with Chow on the importance of education in achieving success.
Among those present were state Education Department representative Mohamad Zawawi Ahmad, SMK Westlands principal Nor Hanita Mohd Hanapiah, and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Ahmad Ibramsa.
