Chow gets warm reception from Perai folk as he continues his campaign in Batu Kawan

CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is Pakatan Harapan’s Batu Kawan parliamentary candidate, was greeted warmly by the hawkers and residents in Perai during his walkabout this morning.

Today is Chow’s fourth day of campaigning, ahead of the forthcoming 15th General Election (GE15) with polling day set on Nov 19.

He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillor and campaign director David Marshall.

“Entering the fourth day of campaigning, we have so far visited several places in all three constituencies under the Batu Kawan parliamentary constituency, namely Perai, Bukit Tambun and Bukit Tengah.

“We will continue visiting the rest of the areas to hear the voices of rakyat as well as to see the reactions of our people concerning the election.

“The response that we have been receiving is overwhelming, and we will continue with our efforts,” Chow said during the walkabout at the Inderawasih Food Court.

Chow said several matters were conveyed to him by the local community during his visit to Kuala Juru.

“Among the issues brought to our attention were welfare aid, roof repair appeal and land matters.

“The service centres and Village Community Management Councils (MPKKs) are doing the necessary work to tackle these complaints.

“Overall, the complaints received were not many, only a few.

“We will take into consideration the requests made by the local community,” he added.

Meanwhile, in response to a reporter’s question, Chow said he could manage his time well despite the tight schedule due to the election campaign.

“Although there might be a slight impact (on time), I still manage my time properly to perform my daily official duties.

“The matters related to public affairs are still being handled by the offices of state executive councillors.

“And the administration of the state government is going as usual,” he added.

Responding to a statement by Warisan candidate Ong Chin Wen that Chow could still serve Penangites even if he is not a Member of Parliament (MP), Chow said his responsibility as a chief minister covers the entire Penang.

“My job as a chief minister is to take care of the whole of Penang as there are people in each constituency, including Batu Kawan.

“Apart from contesting in Batu Kawan, I also come here frequently,” Chow added.
