CARETAKER Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow commended the leadership of Sri Muniswarar Temple, Jalan Baru for its active involvement in various community initiatives over the years.
He expressed his appreciation when he officiated the ‘Free Medical Camp, Health, Dental and Family Day 2023’ programme organised by the temple today.
The medical camp was jointly organised by Sri Muniswarar Temple and 30 non-governmental organisations.
“This temple is a caring religious body that is well liked by the Hindu community.
“The temple has a long history where it is a landmark for many devotees who would come here to fulfil their religious vows. It also engages in charitable activities.
“On top of that, this place provides a platform for many organisations to come together and organise programmes for the community.
“We would like to praise the leadership of the temple for always taking care of the well-being of the Hindu community and local community as well,” Chow said during his speech at the event.
Chow also thanked the NGOs and other agencies for being part of the medical camp which plays a crucial role in promoting health awareness.
“As the chief minister, I am happy to see the organisations at the grassroots level, along with the state machinery, playing a pivotal role in taking care of the well-being of the ‘rakyat’.
“Apart from that, I have also launched the Penang2030 vision, and in the past 15 years, we have brought significant changes to the state of Penang.
“We are able to live harmoniously in Penang because everyone is given equal rights and recognition which is in accordance with the constitution, to enjoy the fruit of the development together.
“Only when the ‘rakyat’ is in a good state, the state is able to conduct programmes such as this for them,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sri Muniswarar Temple, Jalan Baru chairman M. Segaran said the temple’s car park project has received the necessary approvals from relevant agencies and is now open for tender.
“With this, we can start building the car park anytime soon and we would like to thank the chief minister for approving the project earlier,” he said.
It is learned that the groundbreaking ceremony for the car park project took place last year in December.
