CHOW Kon Yeow is committed to completing as much work as possible in his remaining three years or so as Chief Minister.
After announcing the state government’s approval of the North Coastal Paired Road’s new alignment at a press conference in Komtar, Chow was asked by a reporter about his decision to contest in the upcoming Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) election on March 16 and not in the recent state party election.
“I am actively engaged in numerous projects to develop the state. There are still many challenges ahead. As I have stated before, my focus over the next three years is to complete, initiate, or advance these mega projects,” Chow said.
“I have been a CEC member and vice-chairman since 2004, and if I do not contest, I will remain an ordinary DAP member without any official position, except for the Batu Kawan parliamentary coordinator, which is an automatic role. Other than that, I do not hold any post.
“As Chief Minister, holding a position within the party is important, as it allows me to be part of the leadership team and contribute effectively.”
He further explained that he did not contest the state DAP election as his tenure as Chief Minister would end this term, based on the maximum two-term limit allowed by the state Constitution.
