THE Penang government will hold its State Assembly sitting even for an hour to avoid its dissolution by May 6, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He said the state executive committee (exco) would meet tomorrow to decide on the matter in compliance with the state constitutional requirements that the State Assembly sitting must be convened within six months.

Asked by a reporter that whether the State Assembly sitting that has been slated to be held on April 17 would proceed under the current movement control order (MCO), Chow said it has to be conducted according to the constitution.

“We will hold it in the shortest possible time, maybe for one hour,” Chow told reporters after launching the Jom Beli Online@MBPP in Komtar today.

“We will sit for one hour and then just adjourn. The exco will meet tomorrow to discuss this matter.”

On another matter, Chow said Penang has complied with the decision taken by the National Security Council by allowing four categories of business to operate twice a week.

They are agricultural input stores (fertilisers/poison); hardware stores; stores selling pet food, animal food and animal medicine; and spare part stores.

The state has allowed them to operate every Monday and Thursday from 8am to 2pm beginning from April 6 after Chow had tabled it to the state Security Council meeting.

“What happened to other states, I am not sure. What we have done in Penang definitely are in compliance with the decision of the National Security Council.

“We advise those not in these four categories not to operate their business because enforcement action will be taken,” Chow added.
