Chow urges supporters to show up in droves to vote on Aug 12

CARETAKER Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has urged supporters of the unity government to come out in large numbers and cast their ballots during the state election on Aug 12.

“I would like to urge our supporters in all the 40 constituencies to come out in large numbers to vote this coming Saturday to ensure a win for our candidates.

“At every ‘ceramah,’ we have been emphasising the importance of voting to counter the strategies and strong organisation of our opponents.

“They are capable of giving us a surprise if our supporters do not come out to vote,” Chow said during his speech at Taman Iping, Batu Maung today.

Chow said the rakyat needs to vote for a stable government that can collaborate with the Federal Government for the development of both the state and the country.

“It would be easy if the state government is of the same page with the Federal Government, having being sidelined before by previous Federal governments.

“When Penang becomes a part of the unity government, there is potential synergy that a unity government can bring to further develop the state,” Chow added.

Chow also urged voters to support candidate for N27 Batu Maung, Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, so that he would be able to contribute to enhance the state government’s performance in the next five years.

“I hope that the voters in the Batu Maung constituency would give Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad an opportunity to become their ‘wakil rakyat’.

“I am sure that he would be able to use his experience and knowledge to strengthen the state government in order for us to achieve better results.

“Every seat that is contested is important, including the Batu Maung constituency, as we need to get a majority to form the state government,” he added.

Former Batu Maung assemblyman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, who was also present, thanked the voters for their support shown to him for the past five years.

He also urged them to give their full support to Dr Mohamad now that he is endorsed by PKR to contest the seat.

Meanwhile, state Amanah chairman Dr Roslan Ahmad expressed his support for Chow to be appointed as the chief minister again to ensure the continuity of the Penang2030 vision.

Earlier, Chow spent about an hour in his walkabout in Batu Maung to extend his support to Unity candidate Dr Mohamad.

Among the prominent people who joined them were Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, state Amanah chairman Dr Roslan and Miri MP Chiew Choon Man, as they engaged warmly with the locals.
