PRODUCTIVITY and efficiency in the civil service sector must improve following the recent salary revision announced by the Federal Government, says Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng.
Welcoming Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement yesterday (Aug 16), Lim stressed the importance of enhancing public servants’ service to the people.
“This must be accompanied by better productivity and commitment from public servants.
“This is important to ensure the public sector can perform effectively for the development of the country,” he said in his speech during the launching of the waste segregation at source programme and planting of trees in conjunction with Merdeka month at Padang Tembak today.
Lim expressed confidence that the state civil servants would get a similar salary adjustment as well.
“The state normally will follow suit, don’t worry,” he said, addressing concerns about the state’s public sector salary structure. He also believes that the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is committed to enhancing its service.
Lim further noted the urgent need to improve Malaysia’s standing in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking for 2024, after the country slipped to the 34th spot.
“We need to improve on this as our neighbouring countries, such as Thailand and Indonesia, are ahead of us,” he said.
Lim also reiterated the importance of the state’s green initiatives. MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, who was present at the event, highlighted the significance of protecting the environment.
Also present were Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abd Rashid, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, and other MBPP councillors.
