THE Fooi Chew Association in Penang has allocated RM50,000 for study loan for students who want to pursue tertiary education.

Known as Fooi Chew Study Loan, it is eligible to all Penangites regardless of race and religion to continue their study in local universities or colleges.

Its association deputy chairman Lio Chee Yeong said up to RM2,000 study loan would be offered to the needy Penangites.

“They can repay the loan in one lump sum or even through monthly instalments when they conclude their studies.

Luo speaking to reporters during a press conference.

“After all, education is the key to success and hence, we at Fooi Chew Association have come up with this initiative to assist the people during this uncertain time.

“It is open to 25 eligible applicants,” he told a press conference at the association’s premises in Prangin Street.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, Lio believed that the association could still cope with the disbursement given.

“We will try our best to provide any assistance that we can,” he added.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen said he was proud of the association’s generosity in prioritising people’s interest above everything else.

“This is the first clan association in Penang to make the contribution and I hope other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or clan associations can follow suit.

Gooi appreciates the contribution by Fooi Chew Association.

“Hence, I will contribute RM5,000,” he said, adding that the contribution by the Fooi Chew Association would help many needy people in this period.
