PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow extends heartfelt gratitude to water supply operators from six states for their invaluable assistance during the recent scheduled water cut from Jan 10 to Jan 14.

These operators deployed 18 water tankers to Penang, providing crucial aid to the affected areas in the state.

Meanwhile, an additional 84 water tankers were also deployed by various organisations, including Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) and voluntary fire brigades in the state.

A total of 590,000 users in Penang, including non-domestic users, were impacted from 6am on Jan 10 to 6pm on Jan 14. This disruption was necessary for the replacement of two 1,200-millimetre valves at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant, along with works at 22 locations throughout Penang.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow expressed the Penang government’s and PBAPP’s appreciation of support from water supply operators and their personnel across Selangor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Kedah and Melaka.

“We are grateful for the assistance during that period. We received crucial support from water supply operators who deployed their water tankers to the affected areas, aiding in mitigating the impact as we waited for the water supply to normalise.

“Special thanks also go to MBPP, MBSP and the voluntary fire brigades in the state, whose vital contributions played a crucial role in supplying water to the affected areas.

“This also includes state elected representatives who effectively played their roles by supplying static water tanks in their constituencies,” Chow told Buletin Mutiara during a simple ceremony in front of City Hall today.

Chow also emphasised the importance of cooperation during water cuts.

He thanked the water tanker teams before they returned to their respective states, highlighting the significance of water storage for residents during scheduled cuts.

Also present were Penang State Secretary Datuk Rosli Isa, state Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, state Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, PBAPP chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan and MBPP mayor Datuk Rajendran Anthony.

Pathmanathan also thanked the people of Penang, particularly the affected water consumers, for their understanding, patience, support, and cooperation during the scheduled water cut.

“We also would like to thank all our contractors for their strong support in ensuring timely completion of the tasks.

“Not to forget, special thanks are also extended to all the tanker crews who delivered water to the affected consumers throughout the state during that period,” he said.
