AS the country is transitioning to endemicity, face masks are still needed as a precautionary measure against Covid-19.
Although the health authorities have loosened the mask mandate outdoor, the public is seen wearing it as part of health safety, especially in crowded places.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his entourage today spent about 30 minutes distributing 300 aprons and 300 face masks to the hawkers and traders in Cecil Street Market.
The hawkers and traders were happy to receive the aprons and face masks from Chow, who is also the Padang Kota assemblyman and Tanjong MP.
Some of them also took the opportunity to warmly greet Chow and his delegation during the visit.
Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi, who was also present, said 20 units of exhaust fans would be installed at the market.
“This will help to cool down the market, especially during noon,” he said, adding that the exhaust fans were allocated by Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
Also present were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, MBPP councillors Wong Yuee Harng and Alan Lim, and Lau Keng Ee, who is Chow’s special affairs officer in Padang Kota and service centre.
