CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow has praised the Iman Society Penang for its contribution to the community in Penang.

Chow said this when he attended the Hari Raya open house organised by the Iman Society Penang at its centre in Chulia Street today.

“For the past 33 years, many have benefitted from the Iman Society Penang and we hope it will continue its good work for our community,” Chow said during his speech at the event.

The Iman Society Penang, apart from its social services, is also involved in activities related to empowering the community via education.

Its president Shahul Hameed said the society gives emphasis to education as well as has organised seminars for the students, namely UPSR, SPM and STPM students, irrespective of race and it is free of charge.

“We would like to thank CM Chow as the state government has been supportive of all the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Penang,” he said.

The society has also shared its desire to turn the upper floor of its premises into a computer room for learning and has requested help from the state government.

Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying, who is also the Deputy Education Minister, said she would do the needful as much as she can.

Earlier, Chow also said that the state government had previously given an allocation to the society for the upgrading work of its premises.
