THE people may not be able to celebrate the National Month in the most preferred way due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nevertheless, it is important for the people to stay committed and united to face the ‘world’s greatest enemy’ at this moment, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.
Chow said that the National Month is an important month.
“Let us not allow Covid-19 to dampen our spirit of patriotism towards our country although the pandemic has severely impacted our lives and livelihoods.
“Stay strong, committed and united. I believe that we can overcome this tough situation together,” Chow said after launching the state-level Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign in Komtar today to mark the National Month.
He was accompanied by other state leaders and representatives.
The event also saw the Information Department, police, Penang Island City Council and other agencies fly the Jalur Gemilang from their respective vehicles via the Info on Wheels (IOW) method.
Some 3,000 flags were allocated for this campaign, covering 15 locations in all the five districts in the state.
It is learnt that the state representatives, agencies and departments would continue to receive the Jalur Gemilang via the IOW method until September this year.
Chow said hybrid-based activities were planned for the campaign during the National Month period.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, State Secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, State Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang and state Information Department director Dr Haniff Hassan.
