PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has clarified that the National Physical Planning Council (NPPC) had only advised the state on the proposed Penang South Reclamation (PSR) project.
“The proposed PSR project has yet to receive an approval.
“As stated in my statement, the National Physical Planning Council (NPPC) had only agreed to the implementation; and had imposed 18 points of advice to be adhered to.
“Once the conditions set by the NPPC have been complied, the project can proceed.
“The word ‘approved’ was merely interpreted by the media.
“We will provide further details on the status of the proposed PSR project from time to time.
“We will comply with the 18 conditions recommended by the council.
“It will take at least another year to comply with all the requirements before actual works can be carried out,” Chow told a press conference today.
He added that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the PSR project which was carried out two years ago was rejected last year.
“A new EIA report has been submitted to the Department of Environment (DoE) in February this year. A public display will be held on April 29 to gather public feedback,” Chow said.
Chow stressed that all approvals must be obtained before any works can begin.
