Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today expressed his support for the decision to ban horse-riding activity on Batu Ferringhi beach beginning Sept 1.
He said this decision was appropriate following numerous complaints and nuisances related to horse-riding operators breaching designated riding areas.
“As the state Exco in charge of Local Government at that time, I restructured water sports activities into various operational zones. Horse-riding was allocated to the far end of the beach for safety reasons.
“Over the years, the activity has spread all over the beach due to lack of enforcement, causing disturbances among beach-goers,” he said at the sidelines of a press conference at Marriott Hotel today.
He added that the ban would make the beachfront activities at the popular beach more organised and that the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) would monitor the situation.
State Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye had announced that the horse-riding activity would be banned from Sept 1.
On another matter, Chow said he had not yet received any documents related to the defamation suit filed by former Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy against him.
