IT was a night of merriment for the old boys as they gathered and reminisced about the happenings during their schooling life.
Being one of the oldest alumni in Malaysia, the Old Frees’ Association (OFA) is celebrating its 99th anniversary. Meanwhile, Penang Free School (PFS) is celebrating its 206th anniversary.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow offered his heartiest congratulations to OFA, which will be having its centenary celebration next year.
“I have been informed that OFA is planning for the centenary celebrations. Various programmes and activities including sporting events will be organised leading to the grand occasion next year.
“I am aware that OFA is not only supporting the annual programmes of the school but also ensuring it is the place for old boys to gather, as well as foster unity and brotherhood.
“The association has been the bridge between the present Frees and the Old Frees. I am delighted that OFA supported the school activities and maintained a close relationship with the school.
“The support and financial aid that are given to the school have enabled the participation of the present school students in many activities,” he said in his speech during the OFA 99th anniversary dinner at St Giles The Wembley Hotel this evening.
Chow urged the Old Frees to keep up the school motto ‘Fortis Atque Fidelis’ (Strong and Faithful).
“I call upon the Old Frees to uphold your traditions and culture. Continue to support your Alma Mater in times of need.
“Unite with one voice, bring back the glorious past and transform PFS and OFA into legendary landmarks,” he said.
OFA 2022/2023 president Andrew Lim said the theme for the dinner was ‘Towards 100’.
“To mark the OFA’s centenary celebration next year, many activities will be held leading to the celebration to ensure that it will be as memorable as possible,” he said.
Lim thanked the management committee and the staff for their dedication to the association.
He also hoped that the guests enjoyed themselves at the event.
Also present were OFA trustee Datuk Dr P. P. Shah and organising chairman Roy Chai.
