WITH less than 24 hours before the polling day tomorrow for the Sungai Bakap by-election, registered voters are urged to make the best decision by choosing the Unity government’s candidate, Dr Joohari Ariffin, as their elected representative.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, hopes that the two-week campaigning period is enough to convince the Sungai Bakap voters to cast their votes for Dr Joohari, fondly known as Cikgu Joohari.

“Before you vote, please consider everything that has been explained during the two-week campaigning period regarding various issues in Sungai Bakap.

“The state government, with assistance from the Federal Government, is committed to solving various issues in the Sungai Bakap constituency, including water issues.

“As I have said before during the campaign, if Cikgu Joohari wins the Sungai Bakap by-election, he will not work alone serving his constituents.

“The Penang government will assist Cikgu Joohari in carrying out his duties as an elected representative, providing allocation and assistance for infrastructure projects.

“Thus, I urge the people of Sungai Bakap to vote for Cikgu Joohari to ensure the continuity of various developments planned for the constituency, which will benefit the locals,” Chow said during a ceramah mega at Bandar Tasek Mutiara in Sungai Bakap tonight.

The Sungai Bakap by-election features a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin Ismail.

The seat became vacant following the death of the incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff from Perikatan Nasional, on May 24 due to stomach inflammation. Nor Zamri, who was also the Nibong Tebal PAS chief, had won the seat by defeating Nurhidayah Che Rose from Pakatan with 15,433 votes to 13,870 votes, a majority of 1,563 votes.

Also present during the ceramah were PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, DAP national organising secretary Steven Sim Chee Keong, Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Penang Umno chairman Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir and Penang PKR chairman Nurul Izzah Anwar.
