THE ‘Pusat Penang2030 Kadun Air Itam’ at the Desa Mawar neighbourhood was officially launched by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow this evening.
With the setup of this centre, Chow said he hoped that more activities and programmes can be held continuously for the local community.
“The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has previously beautified and upgraded this area with public amenities.
“However Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng told me that there is still one thing yet to be done here.
“And that is the construction of a roof over the empty space at the centre (‘Pusat Penang2030 Kadun Air Itam’).
“So, the state government will provide an allocation (RM300,000) for the construction work (roof). It will be done by the MBPP,” said Chow at the opening ceremony.
Chow added that equipping the space with a roof will provide a conducive environment to conduct community activities such as health camps.
Meanwhile, Chow also presented prizes to the children who participated in the ‘Air Itam Constituency Tanglung Making Competition’.
Earlier, Chow and his entourage also visited Kampung Zoo in Air Itam, Bukit Gelugor to hand over new fire extinguishers and fire alarm bells to the village.
Chow said the total costs of two units of fire extinguishers and two units of fire alarm bells are RM260 and RM300 respectively.
“It is hoped the residents here can now feel much safer after the place was equipped with new fire extinguishers and fire alarm bells that can be beneficial in the event of any emergencies or fire incidents.
“Such contributions are greatly important for the community here as this village is quite small with only 20 to 25 housing units only.
“Thus, I hope the residents here will always take care of the facilities provided for them and take measures to ensure these are not damaged,” he said.
The visit also was part of Chow’s ‘Jelajah ❤️ Penang’ programme at the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency today.
Chow was accompanied by Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, who is also Chow’s political secretary, and MBPP secretary A. Rajendran.
Chow also officiated a LovePENANG signage near SMJK Chung Ling in Air Itam as a symbol to raise the spirit of LovePENANG among the locals.
