PROMINENT Malaysian scientist Datuk Emeritus Prof Dr Lam Sai Kit has welcomed the implementation of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in a gradual manner.
According to the news report in China Press, Dr Lam said that while many people were eager to lift the movement control order (MCO), the order should be lifted in stages.
“The order should be lifted gradually as per the Penang government’s proposal. Certain sectors can be open but some sectors, such as the society, community and education sectors, should to wait a little longer.
“While China has managed to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are only keeping it at a stable degree at present.
“Malaysia must continue to flatten the Covid-19 infection curve. The number of new cases is still high. We must prevent new cases and infection to flatten the curve,” he said.
Dr Lam said that Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s soft-landing recommendations were best to be followed by the Government.
“Each state government should have its own standards and guidelines,” he said.
Meanwhile, Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Assoc Prof Dr Malina Osman said that the CMCO should be implemented gradually.
“The Government gave only two days for various industries to prepare for the implementation of the CMCO on May 4, as the announcement was made on May 1,” she said.
