LAUNDRY services are essential for modern-day households and offices but there is also an underlying spillover effect on a particular nation’s economy.

This particular industry has grown to be a major economic contributor, and in Penang, where we take the lead in various areas to ensure continuous economic growth, view this as an important opportunity to further boost the state’s economy.

On Aug 20, a local laundry outlet operator, Georgetown Laundry, announced its expansion on a 12,000sq ft land off Gat Lebuh Macallum in George Town.

The landowner is learned to be the Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI), and the land has been leased to Georgetown Laundry.

CMI is headed by its general manager Datin S. Bharathi.

It was learned both CMI and Georgetown Laundry have agreed to collaborate to effectively turn this space into good use for commercial uses while supporting the infrastructure and tourism industry in Penang.

The land was learned to be unused for about 15 years.

The new facility serves as an extension of Georgetown Laundry’s existing outlet in the area.

To keep pace with client demands while staying relevant in the industry, the company saw the need to open up a bigger laundry.

Georgetown Laundry founder and general manager Louis Loh Chun Hean said RM3.5 million was invested in the renovation and installation of state-of-the-art laundry machines.

The facility now boasts 12 washers, 14 dryers, and other relevant machines, including ironers and folders.

This new laundry service is primarily focused on catering to large establishments, such as hotels and hospitals in Penang.

Loh emphasised Georgetown Laundry’s commitment to delivering top-quality services and vowed to maintain its standards with its new facility.

“All our new machines in this plant are imported from China, featuring an advanced extraction rate at moderate speeds.

“This technological innovation allows us to handle linens with the utmost care, extracting water efficiently without causing damage.

“We’ve integrated an advanced filtration system to improve water quality. This includes sand filters, activated carbon filters, a water softener system, and precision filter systems.

“Additionally, our Reverse Osmosis (RO) filter system ensures that the water used to create steam is purified, leaving no contaminants that could affect the cleanliness of your linens.

“We are also excited about our new ironing system, which utilises thermal induction oil. This system supports drying ironing and folding, an all-in-one seamless process, which helps eliminate the need for pre-drying linen.

“Our super eco-friendly dryers feature a direct air-blowing system, which conserves energy and also protects the quality of the linens by preventing them from becoming thinner over time.

“Furthermore, the machine also utilises an eco-steam resource that can achieve desired and precise temperatures necessary for effective stain removal,” Loh said in his speech during the opening ceremony at Gat Lebuh Macallum in George Town on Aug 20.

Loh is operating this new facility with a couple of partners, namely, Michele Anne Richards, who is also the director and handles marketing, Qin Dan as director and Datuk Mahatam Rai as the advisor.

Gulab, who was also present during the ceremony, said that the laundry was going to be more than just a laundry facility.

“We pledge to strive to be a beacon of convenience, quality, speed, and industry-friendly.

“Our equipment and machines are designed to provide the highest of care for linens, while our dedicated team is committed to delivering exceptional customer service.

“We are confident that Georgetown Laundry will be an integral part of a support system to the tourism partners, particularly hotels.

“The team at Georgetown Laundry would like to also thank the state government, specifically CMI, for playing a very important role in materialising this initiative,” he added.

Present to officiate the opening ceremony was Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng.
